About the Kirghiz aristocracy's attempt to battle the influx of Russian merchants in pre-Revolution days.

Based on a novel by Farman Karimzade, the movie shows the life in an Azerbaijani village under the Soviet rule in 1930s. Here two former "beys" (land owners) are opposing each other. One is loyal to the ideology of the past and can't reconcile himself to the new power, to second rejects the past and accepts the power of the Bolsheviks, believing that it will establish justice.

Rambabu, a delivery agent, escapes through the forest with a girl he rescued from goons. He encounters a cast of characters each with their own agenda. A serial killer lurks in the shadows, adding to the tension.

One of the mountain passes of Tajikistan, which is an important strategic object, is controlled by the Basmati detachment of Kurbashi Kerim Dodho, who is respected by the people. The head of the OGPU Paramonov, in order to avoid bloodshed, convinces Kurbashi of the expediency of holding peace talks. However, the counterrevolutionary group, which has its own people in the militia units, is trying to interfere with the negotiations between Paramonov and Dodho, a Bolshevik sympathizer.

A married couple gives each other one night off from fidelity - a "hall pass" and their lives are quickly turned upside down as the one night of pleasure becomes a tool of deception.
